Fairfield Heights Burger

This is the first in a series of articles where I will be travelling around Sydney looking for the best burgers to eat and compiling the ultimate list. Just some house rules to address

  • Burger shop must be located within the borders of Greater Sydney
  • Fast food burgers are eligible, although the chances of them competing with the gourmet burgers are slim, so they won’t feature too much here
  • The final score will be comprised of the following components
  • Presentation (Out of 5)
  • Bread (Out of 3)
  • Patty (Out of 5)
  • Chips (Out of 2)
  • Taste (Out of 5)
  • Overall score will be out of 20

So the first burger shop that will be reviewed is “Suburgia”, a burger shop tucked away in the Redfern neighbourhood. It’s not too far of a walk from Redfern station. In terms of seating, there’s some tables outside the store front but they also have tables. As the name implies, all their food items are named after suburbs in Sydney, which I think is a cute touch.

Presentation (4/5)

My burger was the Fairfield Heights burger (because it’s the nearest suburb to where I live). The burger looked great with two patties, a good serving of crispy bacon stripes, topped with a nice serving of cos lettuce and a slice of tomato, all this with the burger sauce oozing over the sides (Although not too messy like other burger places tend to do)

Bread (2.5/3)

The bread was definitely of the milk bun variety or Brioche, but I was happy with it. The ratio of bread to the rest of the burger was good, and it was toasted and warm so the sauce didn’t soak into the bread. If anyone is wondering, I always believe potato buns are the best bread you can use for a burger

Patty (3/5)

The patty was well cooked and is a solid slice of meat with some good cheese. I felt like the meat could a bit more flavour and more juicier. It definitely relies on the other ingredients to give more of a flavour bunch

I did like how the patty was cooked thoroughly and had nice brown crispness on both sides, despite not being a smashed patty

Chips (1.5/2)

If only Milk Bar weren't around the corner from here cause these chips would be the best chips in Redfern. Fresh beer battered fries, the thickness of the fries is somewhat in between McDonalds size and KFC size chips. It was crunchy on the outside but enough thickness to be fluffy on the inside. Definitely recommend their loaded fries, they are very generous with their bacon

Taste (4/5)

Good quality ingredients were used and the burger itself was filling. The generosity of the burger sauce in addition to the liquid cheese lends the burger to have more flavourful punch, and the ingredients gel well together.

Overall (15/20)

I enjoyed my burger and I will definitely come back to visit and try more burgers on their menu
