OG Truffle

This is the first in a series of articles where I will be travelling around Sydney looking for the best burgers to eat and compiling the ultimate list. Just some house rules to address

  • Burger shop must be located within the borders of Greater Sydney
  • Fast food burgers are eligible, although the chances of them competing with the gourmet burgers are slim, so they won’t feature too much here
  • The final score will be comprised of the following components
  • Presentation (Out of 5)
  • Bread (Out of 3)
  • Patty (Out of 5)
  • Chips (Out of 2)
  • Taste (Out of 5)
  • Overall score will be out of 20

So the second burger shop that will be reviewed is “Mister Gee”, a burger truck located in North Strathfield. It’s about a five minute walk from North Strathfield station.

My prior history with Mister Gee had been at their pop up shop at Surry Hills, when the old burger truck had caught on fire so they were moving around Sydney a lot. They’ve made one of their permanent residencies at North Strathfield, which I was very excited to try.

Presentation (3.5/5)

I got the OG Truffle burger and all burgers are presented in a cardboard take out box to prevent any spillage, and wrapped with some aluminium foil at the bottom to get a good handle of the burger. The packaging is fine, but for a dine in experience, was expecting a bit more.

The burger looked plumped and delicious, with a well glazed buns

Bread (3/3)

Soft and delicious brioche buns sandwiched the filling to perfection. Toasted well so the bread wasn’t soggy. My favourite kind of buns to be used for any burger

Patty (3/5)

Maybe it’s been a while, but I had high expectations for this burger. This was because I had been to the Surry Hills pop up three times, and each time, the patty had so much flavour and seasoning that put all other burgers to shame.

I’m willing to put this to a one off, and that the next time I would go back, the flavour would be how I remembered it to be

Chips (1/2)

Pretty much your standard McDonald’s sized chips, with just salt sprinkled on the top.

Taste (3/5)

With the patty flavour lacking a punch, it was an impossible hill to climb for the rest of the ingredients in the burger to cover up for this. The sauce was good but I felt like the caramelised onions could be a bit more sweeter.

Overall (13.5/25)

Overall the burger would’ve been fine if I had it any other burger shop, but since this was Mister Gee (which I hold to a higher standard than other burger shops), its a low grade this time.

However I will be going back because that’s how much goodwill Mister Gee has earned from the many previous trips I had been to their other establishments.
