Five Points — Part 3 of the Sydney Burger Series

This is the third in a series of articles where I will be travelling around Sydney looking for the best burgers to eat and compiling the ultimate list. Just some house rules to address

  • Burger shop must be located within the borders of Greater Sydney
  • Fast food burgers are eligible, although the chances of them competing with the gourmet burgers are slim, so they won’t feature too much here
  • The final score will be comprised of the following components
  • Presentation (Out of 5)
  • Bread (Out of 3)
  • Patty (Out of 5)
  • Chips (Out of 2)
  • Taste (Out of 5)
  • Overall score will be out of 20

So the third burger shop that will be reviewed is “Five Points”, a burger shop about a five minute walk from North Sydney station.

It was my first time coming to Five Points burgers, and I was excited cause it seemed like from the buzz that this was the best burger in North Sydney.

I will say in terms of customer service, the guy seemed like a nice guy, but when I came in, he was on his phone for a while and didn’t notice me until I called for assistance.

Presentation (2.5/5)

I got the Brooklyn burger, and seeing served in a takeaway box looked less appetising than it did in the menu. The chips did look golden and crunch and is what help get the score of the presentation to be a 2.5.

Bread (1/3)

The bread was not toasted which left the bottom bun soggy because the sauce at the bottom. I’m pretty sure the bread is the same kind of buns you can buy in Woolworths. It was dry and didn’t complement the burger at all.

Patty (2.5/5)

Despite the patty lacking some flavour punch, it was still dense and moist which I can appreciate

Chips (2/2)

The saving grace of my meal here. They were amazing thick cut fries, and were golden and crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Did not have to reach out to the tomato sauce bottle to dip the fries into. That’s how good the fries were.

Taste (2.5/5)

The guy that made the burger put way too much mustard sauce on the burger which was a big no no. It made the bread soggy, masked the flavour of the patty (if it had any) and it didn’t leave me too pleased. The sauce should never take centre stage in a burger.

Five Points Burgers Entrance

Overall (10.5/25)

Maybe because it was a 4pm on a Saturday afternoon and I was the only customer, but the burger seemed like it was made in an afterthought. I was not happy, however I will give Five Points Burger the benefit of the doubt and try their new store in Liverpool Street and see if that’s any better. Fingers crossed.
